Ten Hag bemoans Man Utd’s injuries following their home defeat by Arsenal
The manager of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag, attributed the team’s bad season on an injury crisis at Old Trafford. On Sunday, his team lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the Premier League, their ninth home loss of the year in all competitions.
Marcus Rashford, the playmaker, Bruno Fernandes, and at least six defenders were sidelined due to injury for United, who have now tied their record for the most home losses in a season.
Ten Hag’s team has already conceded 82 goals this season in all competitions, their most in a single campaign since 1970–71. Ten Hag has been forced to play defensive midfielder Casemiro at center-back in recent games.
“I don’t know where we should be when we had all the players on board, but definitely it is if there are players all on board, then you will get more points,” Ten Hag stated on the club’s official website.
“There will undoubtedly be greater consistency, particularly in the defense, since we now give up a lot of goals and opportunities, despite having the most clean sheets in the Premier League the previous season.
“A team cannot advance if, especially in certain crucial areas, it is akin to swimming with your hands behind your back. To do this, we are attempting to maintain our heads above the water.
“Even if we are still in the cup final, fit players are still needed if you want to advance as a team. As you saw with our opponent today, Arsenal only had one player unavailable. We had an abundance of them.”
United has 54 points, which puts them sixth in the league standings. Their next league games are against Newcastle United, who are now in sixth place, at home on Wednesday, and Brighton & Hove Albion, away on Sunday.
On May 25, they take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
The Dutchman, though, claimed that after losing 4-0 at Crystal Palace the previous week, his team played much better against Arsenal, who went on to win the table following the game.
“I’m limited to happiness. And I believe it’s a credit to our team that the players who participated gave it their all, were fiercely competitive, and engaged in combat. And you see that you can achieve an outcome,” he stated.
