Mokwena takes pride in Sundowns’ victory at the COSAFA Awards
Rulani Mokwena, the head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, expressed his team’s pleasure after they won big at the inaugural Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Awards on Thursday night.
Ronwen Williams was crowned the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, while Thapelo Maseko was selected the Men’s Most Promising Player. Mokwena said it was highly earned and offered the guys a ton of praise.
He said to Backpage News, “They are great human beings and beyond what you see with the level of football and the quality, and what I like is that good people win, and I’m very happy to see them win.”
The coach also emphasized the benefits that the COSAFA organization has provided to Southern African football players.
He praised COSAFA for their efforts in promoting football in the SADC area, saying, “It’s amazing, great work has been done.”
As the Men’s Coach of the Year, Mokwena also received an award for himself. He expressed his gratitude to the Motsepe family and the club for their “incredible support” in his victory speech.
When it was all over, Sundowns became the buzz of the town when Andile Dlamini, the goalkeeper for the women’s squad, was named the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
