Vipers SC defeats Express FC to seize the lead in the table

The reigning champions of the Ugandan Premier League, Vipers SC, won their final match of the season 1-0 over Express to seize control of the table and eventually the championship.

With just three games remaining, the incumbent champions took the lead when captain Milton Karisa scored the game’s lone goal on the 20th minute under the floodlights at St. Mary’s Kitende Stadium. Now atop the rankings, Vipers and BUL are tied at 49 points, with Kitara and SC Villa one point behind.

NEC and KCCA are positioned on points 45 and 44, respectively. With six goals separating them from BUL, the Venoms need to win their remaining games to win the league for the third time in a row—a first for the team.

It couldn’t get worse for Express. The Red Eagles had lost 13 of their previous 27 games, including four in a row.

With 32 points, they maintain their ninth place. The next games for BUL, Kitara, and Villa are on Saturday at home against Gaddafi, Busoga United, and away against UPDF, respectively. Leaders Vipers will be visiting NEC.
