Prince William Is Allegedly Given Prince Harry’s Military Role by King Charles
Prince William will succeed Prince Harry as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, Buckingham Palace confirmed. This will happen during the duke’s visit to the UK to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
King Charles III, who lives nearby, also has a busy schedule, so they won’t meet Harry either. Their tense relationship hasn’t been resolved since 2020. The absence of a meeting, according to royal analysts, is a major slight that reflects how far apart they are.
Newly, Buckingham Palace announced a change in military command as Prince William succeeded Prince Harry as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps.
The Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop will host the changeover ceremony on May 13.
The Palace’s press release said, “His Majesty The King will officially hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.”
“The King was happy to announce military appointments in August 2023, following His Majesty’s Accession, including the appointment of The Prince of Wales as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. The proclamation went on to say that His Majesty the King has filled the position of Prince of Wales for thirty-one years.
The news was released concurrently with Harry’s short travel back to the UK to attend the Invictus Games’ tenth anniversary celebration, which will take place in St. Paul’s Cathedral tomorrow.
Harper’s Bazaar was notified by a Sussexes agent that Charles’s busy schedule will prevent him from meeting his son during this visit.
“It, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program,” the spokesperson said. “The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
The last time Harry and Charles saw one other in person following the king’s cancer diagnosis was in February 2024. The father and son spent forty-five minutes together at Clarence House at the time, but the duke did not meet with his brother William.
Though his event is only three miles away from Clarence House, Harry announced they won’t meet during his trip to London, despite the fact that there was allegedly a lot of anticipation for another reunion this week. Alternatively, the Duke of Sussex will meet with city businessman Guy Monson, according to Harry’s foundation, Archewell.
Harry, meanwhile, is only anticipated to stay in the UK for three days before leaving with his bride, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, to go on an unofficial royal tour of Nigeria.
Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff of Nigeria, invited them after running into the pair during the Invictus Games in Germany last year.
Diverse perspectives on Charles and Harry’s decision to avoid meeting have been offered by royal analysts.
According to Richard Fitzwilliams, “This will be widely viewed as a snub, regardless of the logistics.” Among the world’s most visible rifts is this one. There would be more hope for a resolution if it was handled discreetly and without as much media conjecture.”
In a similar vein, Michael Cole called it “quite a snub,” adding, “It shows the depth of the divide that the King will not see his younger son, Prince Harry, even though the two men will only be two miles apart tomorrow afternoon.”
Cole highlighted that this is a royal flea in the ear for the fifth in line for the throne, referring to it as the “big medicine” in royal parlance. Although there are always consequences to actions, they are rarely as evident as they are in this instance.”
“Even Prince Harry, never the sharpest sword in the Household Cavalry, is bound to have got the message, and many people will say, ‘About time too,'” he said.
It seems improbable that Harry and William will get back together during this trip, based on rumors, considering their rift that began in 2020 when the duke and his wife Meghan made the decision to leave their royal duties and relocate to California.
Harry had been candid about his tense connection with his elder brother and his wish to make it better.
“My brother and I love each other,” he said in an ITV interview from last year. I adore him so much. Between the two of us, there has been a great deal of suffering, particularly in the last six years.”
“I love my father, I love my brother, and I love family,” he continued, emphasizing his affection for his family and expressing his desire for a quiet reconciliation. My father and brother, I doubt, will read the book. However, I hope that everything would remain private between them and myself, including what they have to say to me.”
William, on the other hand, has not discussed their conflict in public.
