Eto’o refuses to sign the contract of the government-appointed coach during the FECAFOOT Crisis

As a result of FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o’s refusal to accept Belgian coach Marc Brys’ contract, which the president of the federation imposed, problems are developing in Cameroon.

The government and Cameroon FA president Samuel Eto’o are at odds over Marc Brys’ appointment as coach of the Indomitable Lions, and the impasse is getting worse.

President Paul Biya of Cameroon chose Belgian coach Marc Brys on the Sports Ministry’s recommendation; FECAFOOT, the national football association headed by forward Eto’o, was not involved.

After Rigobert Song left Cameroon, Biya made it apparent that he would choose the country’s next coach. However, Eto’o and his group disagreed, believing they should be in charge of selecting the coach.

Brys was recruited by the Sports Ministry along with two assistants, Joachim Mununga and Giannis Xilouris, who were each given a salary budget of €40,000 for a two-year period.

Eto’o and his group, however, disapproved of the decision and chose not to attend the coach’s introduction. A deadlock has resulted from FECAFOOT’s refusal to finish the formalities necessary for the tactician to start working.

According to Kick442, Brys stated to the media, “I have read somewhere that I have not signed a contract,” in response to rumors that FECAFOOT had not signed his agreement.

However, I do possess one! The coach, his technical team, and the players occupy the locker room; neither FECAFOOT nor the Sports Ministry are allowed inside. I am, however, amenable to dialogue, focused, and upbeat.

Brys is still hoping to get together with Eto’o and his group to work through the difficult problems.

“In the best interests of the national team and the nation, I am prepared to collaborate with the federation and its president. As I mentioned earlier, I hope to meet him [Eto’o]. However, I’m not the kind to pursue people since I need to concentrate on the players and the squad for the upcoming games,” he continued.

Despite the impasse, Brys has persisted in meeting potential team members. Cameroon is scheduled to play Cape Verde and Angola in June as part of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers for 2026.

Group D is led by the Indomitable Lions with four points, tied with Cape Verde and Libya; Angola has two, Mauritius has one, and Eswatini has zero.
