Al Ahly keeps up their good play in front of the CAF Champions League final

Al Ahly maintained their strong play on Tuesday night, defeating Al Ittihad 4-1 in Cairo as the CAF Champions League final approached.

The Red Eagles have won three straight Egyptian Premier League games after crushing TP Mazembe 3-0 in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal on April 26.

On Tuesday, goals from Wessam Abou Ali, Reda Slim, and Omar Kamal helped Marcel Koller’s club jump out to a 3-0 lead before halftime.

Just before the hour mark, Benjamin Boateng gave Al Ittihad a response, but Ahly’s three-goal lead was restored by a penalty kick from Mahmoud Kahraba.

During the news conference following the game, Koller stated, “We put on a fantastic performance in the first half and scored three goals and we had the chance to add more goals.”

Omar Kamal, the defender for Ahly, had a fantastic game. He scored his first goal for the Cairo giants in the 42nd minute, and he also earned the penalty from which Wessam opened the scoring.

Koller said, “We use Omar’s pace and acceleration to break the opponent’s defence and he can send crosses with both feet.”

With 30 points, the Red Eagles are now eighth in the league standings, but they still have four games remaining to catch leaders Pyramids FC, who have 41 points.

Al Ahly’s next match is against Baladiyat El Mahalla on Saturday. On May 18, they will travel to Tunisia to play Esperance de Tunis in the first leg of the Champions League final.
