President Ruto appointed Kahariri as CDF Kenya

Kenya. The President of Kenya, William Ruto has promoted Lieutenant General Charles Muriu Kahariri to General and then appointed him as Chief of Army Staff (CDF) today Thursday May 2, 2024 to replace Francis Ogolla, CDF who died in a helicopter crash.


According to the Taifa Today website in Kenya, apart from the appointment, various other changes have been made including Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed has been promoted to Commander of the Air Force and became the first woman to lead the command in the army.

General Kahariri fills the position of Ogolla who along with nine other soldiers, died in a helicopter accident in Sindar area, Elgeyo Marakwet County on April 18, 2024.

In March 2024, President Ruto promoted Kahariri, then a Major General, to Lieutenant General and Deputy Chief of Staff (VCDF).


This followed the retirement of the former VCDF at the time, General Jonah Mwangi and the Commander of the Land Forces, Lieutenant General Peter Mbogo after the two retired.
Also in the change, Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus has become the Head of the Land Command.

According to Kenya’s defense law, the change and the appointment of the CDF have been approved at a meeting of the Council of the Department of Defense under the chairmanship of the Minister of Defense Aden Duale.
