Namungo FC’s draw dealt a severe blow to Simba SC’s title challenge

At Majaliwa Stadium in Ruangwa, Lindi on Tuesday, an own goal by Simba SC center defender Kennedy Juma handed Namungo FC a well-earned 2-2 Tanzania Premier League tie and damaged the former’s hopes of winning the championship.

In the 89th minute, Juma and his goalie Ayoub Lakred lost cooperation, causing the latter to direct the ball into his own net. But Willy Onana gave his team the lead in the 33rd minute, and Kelvin Sabato pulled one back six minutes later.

Edwin Balua doubled the visitors’ score in the second half with a skillfully executed set-piece. A late drama emerged that stunned everyone, as the sports fraternity thought the game was over for Simba.

Simba currently sits third in the standings with 47 points from 22 games, 15 points behind leaders Young Africans. (Yanga SC), who after 24 games have accumulated 62 points.
