Arne Slot and Liverpool verbally agree for Slot to take over as manager
Arne Slot, the head coach of Feyenoord, has verbally agreed to take over as Liverpool’s coach from Jurgen Klopp at the end of the current campaign.
After days of talks, the club made a move for the Dutchman earlier this week, according to the PA news agency.
The 45-year-old, whose contract had two years remaining, has finally reached a settlement over his remuneration package.
Slot had acknowledged that it was “clear I would like to go to Liverpool” on Thursday and had expressed confidence that a deal would be done.
The Feyenoord manager, who led the team to their first league title in six years the previous season and has them sitting in second place in the Eredivisie table after winning the Dutch Cup over the weekend, was named Liverpool’s preferred candidate earlier this week after it was determined that he met all the requirements.
Klopp has already given him the go-ahead; he was not involved in the recruitment process.
He declared, “I really like the way his team plays football.”
“Everything I’ve heard about him has been positive, and I really enjoy that. Some people I know know him, and I haven’t met him yet.
“So, good guy, good coach, excited for the team.” I’m overjoyed if he turns out to be the man or the solution.
“I don’t have the right to assess these things, but everything seems excellent to me.
“It’s the world’s greatest club and job together. There’s obviously room for development because, as it appears, even though I didn’t conclude on a high note, I still contribute.
“Excellent work and wonderful people.” He would accept a really intriguing position.
After leading Liverpool for nine years, Klopp is stepping down at the end of the season. While he would have preferred to leave with a second Premier League title, that now seems unlikely given that Liverpool’s midweek loss to Everton put them well behind rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.
“I believe that Arsenal and City now regard it as a race between two horses. Prior to the Saturday noon kickoff at West Ham, the Reds manager stated, “They don’t expect for themselves to lose two games from now on. They might have to say something else publicly.”
“It’s not what I expected them to do. However, if it does, we ought to be there, which implies we need to win our football matches, beginning with West Ham. We must display our response.
One of Klopp’s worst nights as Liverpool manager was the 2-0 loss at Goodison Park on Wednesday, he acknowledges.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been as frustrated or disappointed after a game like I was after the Everton game,” he remarked.
“Unfortunately, I’ve lost a lot of games in my life, but this one was’special.'” We weren’t present.
“We can play positive football in the areas that matter, but we didn’t play positive football, which is why we are where we are in the table.
“I am solely responsible for that. I have no idea how it happened, but I’m to blame for the team’s attitude.
“Now, spin around quickly. You must have optimism. I’ll do all in my power to make sure we can resume enjoying football.
