Man City maintains its momentum for another Premier League title with a 4-0 victory over Brighton. Phil Foden gets two points

In their quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title, Manchester City recorded yet another significant victory on Thursday, smashing Brighton 4-0, with two goals from Phil Foden, who is having a career-best scoring season.

Between goals from Julian Alvarez and Kevin De Bruyne in the first half, Foden’s double helped City close the deficit to league leaders Arsenal to just one point and extend their winning streak to eighteen games. Liverpool’s prospects of winning the title were harmed by a 2-0 setback against Everton on Wednesday, and now they are two points farther back in third place.

With five games left, City has one more than Arsenal and Liverpool combined. Based on their current performance, they appear unlikely to falter in the remaining games, which still include visits to Nottingham Forest, Fulham, and Tottenham in addition to home games against Wolverhampton and West Ham.

If City wins all five of those games, they will repeat as champions. In the annals of English soccer history, no team has ever won four straight premier flight titles.

De Bruyne declared, “I trust my team.” “Wow, what wonderful teams Arsenal and Liverpool are.. But we have work to do.

“We simply must press on, not get ahead of ourselves, maintain our humility, and put in a lot of effort.”

City has won four straight league games and scored 17 goals since a 0-0 draw with Arsenal at home on March 31.

Without the injured Erling Haaland, who is tied for the league lead in goals scored with 20, Pep Guardiola’s team continued its winning streak, which gave Foden a chance to enter the Golden Boot competition.

Foden has scored 16 goals so far this season and 24 in 48 games across all club competitions. Seven weeks before the European Championship begins, Foden put on another masterful performance in front of England coach Gareth Southgate at Amex Stadium.

Playing more centrally rather than out on the wing, Foden remarked of his positional change this season, “It’s helped my game massively.” “I think I can accomplish a lot of goals there.”

In the 17th minute, De Bruyne scored his first-ever headed goal in the Premier League as he headed in a cross from Kyle Walker’s right flank to put City ahead. Two minutes later, Foden doubled the score with a drive from a free kick that deflected in off Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross’s back.

After Brighton lost control while trying to play out from the back, Foden added a third in the 34th minute with a low finish from just inside the box.

Walker was given room to wander down the right wing, cut inside, and then slide in to challenge goalie Jason Steele and pass the ball over to the Argentina striker. Alvarez, playing up front in place of Haaland, scored 4-0 in the 62nd minute.

Of the top five leagues in Europe, only the Premier League still has a genuine chance of winning the championship. The German league has been won by Bayer Leverkusen; the Italian league has been won by Inter Milan; and Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain lead their respective leagues by eleven points.

Regarding the title fight, Guardiola remarked, “Many things can happen.” We could suffer the same fate as Liverpool, who recently lost to Everton and Crystal Palace. Arsenal is not immune to it. Nobody is secure.
