Ryan Garcia defeats Devin Haney, although he is unable to win the WBC title because he is overweight

At the Barclays Center, Ryan Garcia pulled off an incredible upset by taking down Devin Haney three times and winning by majority decision.

Garcia was not qualified to win the WBC title because he was 3.2 pounds (1.45 kg) over the 10st (63.5 kg) light-welterweight limit. Additionally, his recent unpredictable behavior during fight week raised doubts about whether the fight should even take place.

However, Garcia outclassed his opponent in the seventh, tenth, and eleventh rounds, which was sufficient to win the bout by scores of 115-109 and 114-110 for two judges and 112-112 for a third in Brooklyn.

After losing his sole professional fight to Gervonta “Tank” Davis a year ago, Garcia has won 25 of his 26 fights and two straight since. However, he was given a point deduction in the seventh round for punching during the break.

Haney, the previous unchallenged world lightweight champion who defeated Regis Prograis on the strength of points in December to capture a 140-pound championship, suffered his first loss in 32 contests.

“Come on, folks. Did you really believe I was insane? In his post-fight interview, Garcia stated, “You all lost your own minds.” “You guys overegg everything.”

Haney expressed his dissatisfaction with his performance.

“But I showed that I can fight after a knockdown and getting hurt,” he stated.

A rematch would be wonderful. I should get a shot back from him since I gave him one. I remain the champion even though he failed to make weight. We are able to run it back.”
