CAFCL semifinal matches are still evenly matched

Following draws in the opening legs between reigning champions Ah Ahly and ES Tunis on their travels, both CAF Champions League semi-final matches are still in the balance.

At the Stade du TP Mazembe on Saturday afternoon, Al Ahly prevented TP Mazembe from scoring, moving them one step closer to defending their title.

This season, the Red Eagles have dominated the tournament at home, scoring six goals in four games while maintaining a clean sheet in each.

The Egyptian giants prevailed 2-1 in the group stages of their lone and only prior encounter with the Ravens in Cairo back in 2012.

Additionally, ES Tunis have a small advantage in their encounter following their Saturday night 1-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi.

The Blood and Gold have optimism of making it to the final for the first time since they won the trophy in 2019 when Yan Sasse scored the game’s lone goal in the 41st minute.

The Tunisian team defeated Bafana ba Style 2-1 in South Africa during their previous continental tournament encounter, which took place in the group stages in 2017.

First-leg results of the CAF Champions League semi-finals:

Al Ahly 0-0 TP Mazembe

1-0 Mamelodi Sundowns versus ES Tunis
