Police Order Boat Accident Investigation Into Death of Nollywood Actor Junior Pope and Others

To determine whether there was any illegal behavior involved in the boat tragedy that claimed Junior Pope’s life, police have opened an inquiry.

An inquiry into the Wednesday boat accident in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, which resulted in the deaths of well-known Nollywood actor JohnPaul Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, and other people, has been ordered by CP Aderemi Adeoye, the state’s commissioner of police.

This is happening at the same time as local divers, the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority, and the police are staking claims to the rescue of those who survived the accident and the recovery of the bodies of those who perished.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated in a news statement that the purpose of the investigation was to determine whether any criminal conduct was responsible for the accident.

He stated: “Extensive investigation has been ordered by the Commissioner of Police with a view to determining criminal liability of any person, if any, in the mishap. Preliminary enquiry has provided insight into the cause of the accident.”

“My condolences go out to the family, friends, and fans of the actors who lost their lives in the boat accident,” said Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye. He asked the All-Powerful God to give their spirits a peaceful rest.

“Upon being notified of the capsize, Anambra Command Marine Police deployed for rescue operations and successfully rescued six actors and one actress from the water,” Ikenga stated in reference to the command’s efforts to save the victims.
