OJ Simpson, 76, a former NFL player cleared of murder charges, passes away

OJ Simpson, the former NFL player who is suspected of killing people, has passed away, his family said in a statement. He was seventy-six.

Simpson’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, featured a straightforward message from his family.

“On April 10th, Orenthal James Simpson, our father, lost his fight with cancer. His kids and grandkids were all around him. In this period of change, his family kindly requests that you honor their desires for discretion and dignity, according to the statement.

In a case that captured the attention of the nation and the world, Simpson was found not guilty of the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. This marked the beginning of a trend in the media that has blended fame with crime ever since.

Three years after his criminal conviction, Simpson was found liable in a civil suit brought by the relatives of the victims, despite the not guilty judgment.

Orenthal Born in San Francisco, James Simpson rose to prominence as one of the most renowned and beloved football players of his era. After winning the Heisman Trophy while attending USC, he went on to play professionally for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers.

However, he combined his athletic prowess with a rapidly expanding acting and media career to become a great celebrity in both white and Black America.

He had appearances on Medical Center while attending USC, and after that, while still playing professional football, he starred in movies including The Klansman, The Cassandra Crossing, and The Towering Inferno, as well as the miniseries Roots. Following his retirement from his cherished sport, he appeared in three Naked Gun comedy films.
