Iran’s territory is under threat from Israel if it launches an attack from its own soil
Israel Katz, Israel’s foreign minister, sent a strong warning on Wednesday, threatening to strike Iran directly in the event that the Islamic Republic carried out an attack against Israel from its territory.
The announcement is made at a time when relations between the two countries are at an all-time high due to the recent explosion that killed Iranian generals at the Iranian consulate in Syria earlier this month.
Katz’s statement, which is available on X in both Hebrew and Farsi, emphasizes how dire the situation is. He declared categorically, “Israel will respond and attack in Iran if Iran attacks from its territory.”
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, meanwhile, reaffirmed Iran’s determination to exact revenge on Israel for the attack on the consulate in Damascus.
Tehran accuses Israel of being behind the attack that killed twelve people. Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a prominent member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard who headed the organization’s special Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria until 2016, was one of the deadliest.
Tensions have been rising as both parties prepare for possible fallout, despite Israel’s denial that it was involved in the strike. This is a major turning point in their protracted shadow war.
Over the years, Israel’s military has repeatedly struck Iranian-linked locations in Syria in an effort to sabotage arms transfers and other cooperation with Iran-backed Hezbollah, a paramilitary organization in Lebanon. On the other hand, Israeli officials don’t often discuss these activities.
