In seven days, rain claims 15 lives in Tanzania.

Dar es Salaam: 15 people have died as a result of being swept away by the rain that continues to fall in various parts of the country. The figures have been provided by the Police Force in the country which has said that some of them have died while swimming, others while crossing areas where the water flows rapidly and others from falling into holes or ponds filled with water.

The army stated in a statement released today, April 8, 2024, that “among those people, there are 12 children and three adults,” adding that the deaths happened within a seven-day period, from April 2024 to April 7, 2024.

Kalambo district (Rukwa), Kilwa district (Lindi), Ludewa district (Njombe), Muheza district (Tanga), Babati district (Manyara), Kyela District (Mbeya), and Geita area are the locations where the murders took place, according to the statement. In addition, the Police Force has not stopped calling and advising people in light of these tragedies to ensure that children are properly supervised and given the proper guidance in light of the ongoing rains. This is especially important for parents and guardians.

“Also, local government leaders, schoolteachers, religious leaders should continue to educate our children to beware of stagnant or moving water and not to compete with flowing rainwater, as it is dangerous to their lives,” the police cautioned.
