After floods engulfed a bus headed for Nairobi, passengers were left stranded

A bus carrying passengers from Nairobi had to be rescued from floodwaters on Tuesday morning after it washed up in the Tula region along the Garissa-Mwingi Road.

The area is still experiencing intense rainfall, which are causing rivers to swell and roadways to disappear beneath the floodwaters, turning the road into a stretch of floodwaters.

The bus was headed to Nairobi with an unknown number of passengers on board.

The passengers were left clutching to hope and the higher sections of the bus as the driver’s attempt to drive across the flooded road proved to be ineffective.

Local authorities and community members are collaborating in an attempt to rescue the stranded people.

The Kenya Red Cross has been called upon to arrange for rescue efforts and supply the required assistance.

“At Arer near Tulla village, Tana River County, raging waters have stranded a bus carrying several people, and Kenya Red Cross first responders, working in tandem with community members, are currently engaged in a challenging rescue operation to save their lives,” the organization said in a statement.

Two rescue boats have been sent out by Kenya Red Cross to guarantee a prompt and efficient response.
