After a successful run to win their second consecutive NCAA championship, UConn defeats Zach Edey and Purdue 75-60

GLENDALE, Arizona — With a 75–60 victory over Purdue on Monday night, UConn continued its recent string of dominating basketball games and became the first team to win back-to-back national titles since 2007.

The Huskies won their 12th consecutive March Madness game behind 20 points from Tristen Newton; not a single one of those games was decided by fewer than 13 points.

Although UConn’s offense was effective, its defense won this one. The Huskies (37-3) gladly let 7-foot-4 AP Player of the Year Zach Edey score 37 points on 25 shots while restricting the nation’s second-best 3-point shooting team to just seven attempts from beyond the arc (Purdue only made one).

Since John Wooden’s UCLA dynasty of the 1960s and 1970s, UConn is just the third team to repeat, after the Florida Gators in 2006–07 and the Duke Blue Devils in 1991–92.

One year after becoming the second-ever No. 1 seed in March Madness history to lose in the opening round, Purdue has progressed this far. However, the Boilermakers (34-5) continued their quest for the program’s first NCAA championship as they departed.
