Arsenal gains the upper hand over Liverpool at Old Trafford as Man United holds

At Old Trafford, Liverpool and Manchester United drew 2-2. Mohamed Salah’s late penalty gave the visitors a point in the Premier League match on Sunday.

Luis Diaz’s close-range goal gave the Reds a one-goal lead at the half after a dominant first half, but Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo gave United the lead midway through the second half.

But, after Harvey Elliott was brought down in the vicinity, Salah coolly rolled home a spot kick in the 84th minute to secure a draw for Jurgen Klopp’s team. Liverpool is still in second place in the standings as a result of the outcome, one point ahead of third-place Manchester City and behind leaders Arsenal on goal differential.

The home crowd in Manchester, where the rain was falling heavily, believed their team had taken an early lead when Alejandro Garnacho got in behind and finished, but the offside flag was raised.

After that, though, Liverpool took control of the half. They had created a number of good chances before Diaz finally broke through in the 23rd minute.

Darwin Nunez glanced on Robertson’s out swinging corner, and Diaz was unmarked at the back post, able to deflect the ball home from six yards out.
