Ghana bestows President William Ruto with the nation’s highest honor

President William Ruto, who paid an official visit to Ghana, received the most prestigious award, ‘The Companion of the Order of the Star of the Volta’ award.

Ruto is known for his unwavering commitment to the responsibility of all citizens by adhering to all legal procedures.

At a state ceremony on Wednesday, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo praised Ruto as a symbol of new African leaders seeking to uphold principles regardless of difficulties or potential political consequences.

“Under your leadership, Kenya has become a shining example of a nation governed by the rule of law,” Akufo-Addo adored Ruto.

The Ghanaian President also praised Kenya’s transformation under Ruto, noting that the country has emerged as an icon of lawful governance and is being recognized again on the world stage.

He said that under President Ruto’s leadership, Kenya had regained international respect and recognition.

African Free Trade Area Secretary General Wamkele Mene also praised President Ruto for his exemplary leadership in promoting cooperation and economic integration, especially on the African continent.

Ruto began his first visit to Ghana since taking office in September 2022.

While in Ghana, he strengthened the country’s cooperation with Kenya by signing seven agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

President Ruto emphasized the importance of these agreements (MoUs), covering areas such as trade, science and technology, tourism, education, governance and military, in facilitating trade and investment between the two countries.

Ghana once again supported Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga at the request of the African Union Commission (AUC). Raila is seeking to replace current AUC leader Chadli Moussa Faki Mahamat in the February 2025 elections.

In response, Ruto said Kenya would support Ghana’s candidacy for Commonwealth Secretary-General.

“Your Excellency, my Dear Brother, I thank you most sincerely for accepting to support Kenya’s candidature for the position of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (2025-2028),” said Ruto.
