Elderly American tourists killed by elephants while on safari in Zambia

The safari operator reported that an elderly American tourist died when a bull elephant attacked his car during a safari in Zambia.

Lusaka Police spokesperson confirmed that this incident took place in Kafue Park on Saturday morning. Gail Mattson, 79, was confirmed as the victim by her family.

“An aggressive bull elephant charged the vehicle carrying six guests and a guide who were on a game drive from Lufupa Camp,” Wilderness, the safari company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The company said four other people were treated for minor injuries after the incident.

“The six guests were on the game drive when the vehicle was unexpectedly charged by the bull elephant,”

Wilderness Chief Keith Vincent added in his statement that the safari guide’s car was “blocked” by the terrain when the attack occurred.
