Wema Sepetu’s sister Sunna found guilty of money laundering conspiracy
Sunna Sepetu, 37, the sister of Miss Tanzania 2006 has been found guilty of money laundering conspiracy in a federal court in the United States in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Her co-defendant, Nafise Quaye, a 47-year old Nigerian national who also lives in Worcester, Massachusetts was also convicted of a related charge following an eight-day trial in federal court. Both are facing up to 20 years in Federal Prison.
The verdict was announced by VW’s U.S. Rep. Jane Young, who echoed the Justice Department commitment to prosecute those facilitating the Internet frauds targeting vulnerable people.
“This decision underscores the seriousness with which U.S. Justice Counsel views internet scams targeting vulnerable people” stated U.S. Attorney Jane Young. Between 2013 and 2019, Sepetu and Quaye allegedly received roughly $3.2 million from a fraud victim in Texas. The money was transferred to bank accounts created by the defendants in the names of different contracting businesses.
