UNHRC call up UK to abandon proposal to deport refugees to Rwanda

The United Nations Human Rights Committee advised UK on Thursday to cancel a controversial bill to extradite refugees to Rwanda, which could switch into law next month.

In its analysis of the United Kingdom, the committee announced it regretted the preparations made with some with third countries, mainly Rwanda, to transfer asylum seekers, as well as “efforts to adopt the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill despite the UK Supreme Court’s ruling that the arrangement would not be compliant with international law”.

The committee stated it was calling on the British government to remove the bill or reverse it if it authorized.
