Tanzania oil import propose Uganda can’t reject

Tanzania has snatched a vital opportunity in the Kenya-Uganda standstill over oil importation with a raft of offers that Kampala cannot decline.

The EastAfrican recognizes that President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government has proposed to register Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) to utilize the Dar es Salaam port in the importation of oil for Uganda as Kenya glues to its guns on Uganda’s requirements.

In the meantime, a case that Kampala lodged at the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) wait on determination, with no established timelines although numerous sources have specified a commitment by Uganda to withdraw it, on which Kenya is cash in.

Presidents William Ruto, Yoweri Museveni and Samia lately met in Zanzibar, rare three-way meeting seemingly demanded by Uganda, people close to the negotiations say, to seek guarantee of Uganda’s smooth importation of fuel and other products.
