The agreement was reached on February 24, 2024, during negotiations between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Hon. January Makamba, and his host, the Minister of Trade and Industry of the country Hon. Piyush Goyal held in New Delhi. Likewise, in the talks, the leaders have agreed that the Joint Trade Commission will meet in April 2024, to set joint strategies to promote trade between Tanzania and India.
Previously, before this agreement was reached, Tanzania was allowed to sell only 200,000 tons of peas per year to India. Minister Makamba was in India to participate in the Raisina 2024 Conference in parallel with monitoring the implementation of the agreement reached during the visit of the Honorable Samia Suluhu Hassan the President of the United Republic of Tanzania that he made in the country in October 2023.
