Ghana’s parliament passes strict new anti-LGBTQ people and activists

The new anti-LGBTQ bill passed on Wednesday imposes a prison sentence of up to five years for the “willful promotion, sponsorship or support of LGBTQ+ activities”. Homosexuality is already illegal in Ghana and disciplinary by up to three years in prison. Under the new law, that maximum sentence will increase to five years. The bill still has to be certified by the president before becoming law, which spectators believe is questionable before a general election in December.
