DRC: A bomb has been reported to have fallen at Goma airport

A bomb has fallen at the airport of Goma, in the East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, early today, while fierce fighting continues between the government army and the rebels of M 23.

Reports from the North Kivu Governor’s Office have confirmed the fall of the bomb, while other reports say that two bombs were thrown at the airport. However, no injuries were reported and experts have been investigating who threw the bomb. A few hours later, the spokesman of the Army in North Kivu province, Lieutenant Colonel Guillaume Ndjike, has accused Rwanda of launching the bombs, which he claims were aimed at a FARDC military plane. This week fierce fighting has continued between the FARDC army and M 23 rebels near the town of Sake, 20 kilometers from Goma, forcing ordinary citizens to start fleeing their homes. In addition, in secret documents from the European Union, seen by the French News Agency AFP, Rwanda has been accused of using aerial missiles to support the M23 rebels. Several times, Rwanda has continued to deny claims of supporting the rebels, saying the war in Eastern DRC does not concern it.
