Heads of African countries to attend the 37th regular session in Ethiopia

African heads of state have started arriving in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, to attend the 37th regular meeting of heads of state, tomorrow and Sunday.

First, this meeting is being held after two of its members, Gabon and Niger, witnessed a military coup over the past year, but also a political crisis in Senegal, after the elections that were to be held this month were postponed. The heads of state of Gabon and Niger will not be present in Addis Ababa after their countries were suspended from membership, as is the case with Mali, Guinea, Sudan and Burkina Faso. How to resolve the political and security conflicts in those countries without forgetting what is happening in Eastern DRC and Somalia, is a big question that is expected to dominate the session, but analysts question the ability of the leaders to come up with decisions that will help bring a permanent solution. This session is also held in the year in which there are 19 general elections in various African countries this year 2024, an issue that is said to raise challenges regarding the political stability of those countries.
