GOOD NEWS FROM MANYARU VILLAGE, TANZANIA.

Officials from the Department of Wildlife Services (KWS) yesterday on Friday succeeded in killing a crocodile that ate an 11 year old child in Manyuru village, Ndhiwa sub-county.

In that incident, the child, Felix Odongo of Grade Two was fetching water with his colleagues at River Kuja when he was attacked by the crocodile.

The child’s biological mother, Janet Auma, said she was at home when the incident broke out.

“I wanted to eat first before going to the river but she insisted that she must finish the homework first before eating,” the mother said on Thursday.

Home, the mother says she heard screams in the river. The screams were from some children who were calling for help after their friend was caught by the crocodile.

When she got to the river, Ms. Auma said she saw the crocodile swimming and disappeared with her child. She ran across the river to try to save her baby. “I was shocked beyond words when I saw that crocodile crawling at the ghost with my son,” she narrated with deep sorrow.

Yesterday Friday, those officers managed to get the crocodile after several attempts to shoot him without prior success. Residents were flooded to see the crocodile when it was removed from the river and sadness was filled when the baby’s body was removed.
